Brant W Thomas MD

Dr Thomas is a board certified Family Physician who is committed to health, wellness and preventive medicine. He is a speaker and expert on hyperlipidemia, and prevention of cardiovascular disease. He works in partnership with his patients to develop individual lifestyle plans for wellness. He is an enthusiastic champion for engaging nutrition and exercise for prevention of cardiovascular disease and diabetes. Dr Thomas practices what he preaches by exercising almost every day and eating his vegetables.

Born in Kingston, New York, Dr Thomas moved to Blacksburg, Virginia and graduated from Virginia Tech in 1979 with a degree in Biochemistry. He was a member of the student-run rescue squad while at Virginia Tech. He then attended Medical College Virginia, and was class Vice President. Upon graduation in 1983, he did his Family Practice residency in the Medical College of Virginia system. He was part of Great Neck Family Practice from 1986 to 2002. In 2002 he founded Lifeway Family Physicians with his wife Laura Heiby MD.

Veronique Duguay MD

( formerly Dr Enriquez )

Dr Duguay is a board certified Internal Medicine Physician. She is committed to developing long-term relationships with her patients to know every aspect of their health and life to help them achieve optimal quality of life at every stage. She cares for adults of all ages with a particular interest in geriatrics, cardiovascular health, diabetes and hypertension.

Dr Duguay graduated from Universite de Sherbrooke Medical School in Quebec, Canada, and from Internal Medicine residency at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro, N.C. She was a hospitalist and Medical Director at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital from 2013 to 2023, caring for acutely ill patients, focusing on great quality care, shorter hospital stays, and appropriate follow-ups to optimize their health on their return home. She prides herself on her ability to care for complex medical problems while knowing when to refer for specialty care. She was recognized as Coastal Virginia Top Doc 2018 to 2022 as awarded by physician peers.

Laura R Heiby MD

Dr Heiby is a board certified Family Physician with added qualifications in Geriatrics. Her goal is to help her patients be as healthy as possible at every age through optimal care of medical illnesses and careful attention to diet and exercise. She particularly enjoys teaching you about your illnesses so you better understand what is needed to help you get well.

Dr Heiby’s passion for medicine and helping others began in high school. She graduated from the University of Virginia with a degree in Chemistry before attending Eastern Virginia Medical School. She greatly appreciated EVMS’ focus on kindness and compassion in medicine. After medical school she did her Family Medicine residency at Ghent Family Practice in Norfolk, Virginia, where she was chief resident.
